Friends Lydia and Kaziah, from the west side of the state, are collecting lighthouses this summer. Several of us who live on the east side joined them on Saturday to visit the lighthouses at Sturgeon Point and Tawas Point.

Interpretation

 This picture is strange enough that it must have a deeper meaning--a commentary about some issue or injustice. Otherwise, why would a baby be sitting in a high chair on a lonely dirt road with a tractor and a backhoe in the background?

Two more notable ebooks that I've consumed lately are The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.

The Book Thief takes place in Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Through the voice of an unconventional narrator, it tells the story of a young girl learning the power of words.

Snow Flower, set in China in the nineteenth century, follows the lives of two young girls. The author depicts the customs and beliefs of the time, including foot-binding, without imposing twenty-first century western values on its characters.

Tawas Point State beach cleared out quickly when these clouds blew in. The sky was amazing, but when the lightning started, I sought shelter.
