Last weekend, when Brian and I were in the upper peninsula, we stayed at the Helmer House Inn, in McMillan. If you're north of the bridge, its worth a trip to this family-run inn/restaurant/bakery.

Craft show

 

We're done with farmers' market for the year, but Libby and Naomi set up wares and manned a stall on Saturday, this time at a craft show, where Naomi displayed the quilled cards she's been making. 

Vermillion Life Saving Station

 

Between the sandy hill where the old life saving station is located and the shores of Lake Superior there is a bog where locals in water-proof boots search for wild cranberries. 

I'm sure there's a story behind this mailbox. Years ago, mail was delivered to the station by dog sled in the winter, but I hardly think that mail delivery service, by dog or otherwise, is available at this remote, deserted location.

We had a wagon-load of pumpkin-picking-cousins to help get the pumpkins from the field to the road-side stand.

It was sprinkling a bit, but we managed to make our way along the poison ivy-lined path from the road to the base of Warner Falls, near Palmer, Michigan, a few weeks ago on our Upper Peninsula trip.

Peninsula Point Lighthouse

 

The shape of the Peninsula Point Lighthouse tower is square on the outside and circular on the inside. The tower is open for visitors to climb to the top.
