Concrete

The long anticipated concrete pour commenced on Friday. The weather was perfect and the job went smoothly.

The cement pour on Friday was delayed due to the weather. It rained. The cement trucks are scheduled to come today.

Greenhouse

 Libby received a greenhouse for her birthday. Since then she's been starting flats of tomatoes and flowers and pots of herbs.

This was a couple of weeks ago; the plants don't look so spindly anymore.

Preparation

The plan is to pour concrete on Friday. Our crew has been building forms, hauling and leveling sand, laying styrofoam and arranging tubing. Brian is installing a heated floor in the shop, which is part of the reason for the extensive preparations.

Passport to the World

Every year the international community at SVSU hosts Passport to the World, an event for local school children to "travel" to other countries in the world.

Yesterday, I spent most of the time snapping "passport" photos of busloads of students. The elementary school students then took their passports to visit different country tables and have their passports stamped. 

Along with the usual poster boards and PowerPoint presentations, we also had storytelling, origami, a world fashion show, music and dancing.

It was a loud, long day for English Language Program teachers and International Programs staff, but it was fun!
