Dragon fruit

We tried dragon fruit while visiting with Judith and the kids. Judith took us to a Whole Foods near them, and I discovered dragon fruit. Since I'd seen dragon fruit in books, but never eaten it, I decided to try it.

We had to do a little research about how to prepare dragon fruit. Peeling the outer skin off was surprisingly easy.

The texture was a little like a kiwi, and the taste was nondescript (though I wouldn't be surprised if a dragon fruit that was freshly picked in season might be more spectacular).

Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway was one of the destinations on Naomi's spring break adventure. Amanda and I traveled on the parkway in 2009, and I was glad to return with Julie, Libby and Naomi. The weather was cooler than we'd hoped and parts of the parkway were closed, but we enjoyed the scenery, none the less.
