Remember

In the midst of difficulty, the Psalmist wrote,
"When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;
    at night I stretched out untiring hands,
    and I would not be comforted."

The poet continues,
"Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:
 the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
    yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
I will consider all your works
    and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” Psalm 77 NIV

And so, in the midst of suffering, I recall the goodness of the Lord in the form of this photo that I took three years ago, when in another time of difficulty, God demonstrated his love and faithfulness to me by through His creation.

Tomatoes

I harvested my first tomatoes. It's been a late season.

Helper

I stopped by my parents' house yesterday afternoon, and Cyrus was helping Grandma peel tomatoes and smash them in the jars. This five-year-old is already a dedicated worker.

Planter

I repurposed a stump as a planter for this hydrangea plant that I replanted in hopes that it would get more sunlight.

Extending the season

I'm reusing this curio cabinet, which Betsy and I picked up from the side of the road, as a cold frame to extend the growing season for some chives and parsley.

Almost 1-year-old

This little boy, with his scrunchy nose smile, is about to have a birthday.

Down to the river

We weren't able to make it to a lighthouse or waterfall, but Naomi and I did wade in the Chippewa river on a Sunday afternoon recently.

View

Now that school is in session, and I'm spending a good part of the day at my desk, I'm thankful for the view from my window.
