Rescued

I rescued Charlie from the animal shelter. He was a stray dog, and according to procedure, if he wasn't adopted in a set time, he would have been put down (i.e. killed). Instead, I offered him life and promised to provide for his needs.

That makes me a good person. Ironically, some of the same people who laude me for rescuing Charlie from an untimely death are opposed to rescuing human children from even more gruesome and untimely deaths.

I'm glad that I was able to give Charlie a home, but oh, that it were possible to rescue the thousands of babies every day who are legally murdered in the United States.

Charlie's house

Brian had a small building, originally meant for goat kids, which he donated as a house for Charlie.

The guys brought Charlie's new house over a couple of weeks ago and positioned it in the cove between my kitchen and the sunroom.

It's the perfect place. It's protected  and I can look out my kitchen window and see Charlie curled up in his house. We positioned Charlie's line so that he can move around the yard, go into his house or come on the porch. When I'm in the kitchen, he likes to climb on the bench on the porch and watch me through the window.

As Brian said, the house looked pretty good when it was on the farm surrounded by trees and fence and farm machinery. But, next to the Cookie house it looked ugly.

Over Thanksgiving break it was in the fifties for a few days and I spruced the house up with some paint. Now, it looks much nicer. Then Dad brought over a couple of bales of straw and Mom donated a blanket for Charlie. Logan plans to install styrofoam on the inside of his house, too.

Now Charlie has his own comfortable house next to the Cookie house.

No, Charlie isn't jumping for joy that his house was painted. He's trying to get my attention. He's not thrilled when I come outside and play with my camera instead of him.

Continued...

Over Thanksgiving break the guys worked on hanging metal on the roof and sides of the new building.

Carhartt club

I could have named my dog Carhartt. Charlie fits right in with the guys in the shop--he even has the right color coat.

Most days I drop him off at my parents' farm on my way to school. He spends the day with the guys. He's a good dog, from the reports I hear, but occasionally he gets into mischief and Aaron hollers at him. Then he'll go and hide behind Uncle Paul's legs.

Often Logan or Aaron will take Charlie out for a run. The boys ride the four-wheeler and Charlie runs. According to Logan, Charlie can run 25mph. When they get back to the shop, Charlie finds his favorite spot, on the carpet from Uncle Paul's truck which is in front of the heater, and curls up.

Charlie has a wonderful time at the farm, hanging out with his Carhartt buddies.
