Melon

This year is a melon year. Every year Dad sets melon plants in the garden, but it's not every year that he harvests melons. We've had a warm summer with plenty of rain and the plants prospered and produced fruit. Before he sliced open a melon for breakfast, Dad posed in the garden with his harvest to document the melon year. This year is also a zucchini year...but that's a totally different story.

Barn

My nose almost starts to itch as I look at the field corn and Queen Anne's Lace that almost obliterate the barn in the background of this photo. This often photographed barn is located on the dirt road near our church building. Usually after the service some of us walk down the road and look at the farms, while we wait for the rest of the family to finish their conversations.

Wrap-around sunset

We had a wrap-around sunset the other evening. It's not unusual to have brilliant sunsets this time of year, but it is unusual when the entire sky blazes with color. The sun rises in the east, behind the barn, and sets in the west, behind our neighbor's house. But at quarter after nine at night, a couple of weeks ago, the sky behind the barn was streaked with pinks and purples while the western sky boasted blue-gray clouds against a pale pink background. Unfortunately my camera can not capture a 360 degree view, or I could have photographed a wrap-around sunset.

Frog

This little guy was waiting for us at the door when we arrived at the blueberry barn Saturday morning. He provided Libby with nearly an hour of entertainment before she sent him to find the rest of his family.
