Freedom

"What's the best part of living in America?" I asked my students yesterday.

I expected them to say designer jeans or movie stars or New York City.

"Freedom," they said.

"Freedom?" I asked. We've talked about differences in culture and about American values, but we've never talked about freedom.

"Yes, freedom," they said. "Freedom to say what we want."
