I studied the lines and curves of the Catholic church opposite Julie's window. According to one source St. Andrew's is the oldest church building in the city. As with most cities, the atmosphere around the building has changed over the years. The hospital and church aren't in the best part of our mini Detroit (nor is it the worst). Guards patrol the area around the hospital/rehab center and walk visitors to and from the building after dark. It was safe enough, though, in the middle of the day when I ventured out Monday to explore the edifice across the street. There is a five-sided building painted with American flags a few blocks south and lumber-era mansions on the other side of the river, but I may have to hire a body-guard before I'm allowed to go that far.
