Ten honest things

Naomi reading Three Go Searching by Patricia St. John.

Recently Hannah awarded me the "Honest Scrap" award. Accordingly, I am sharing ten honest bits of information about myself. Rather than share random trivia, I decided to focus on my reading habits.

~Shortly after turning off my alarm and putting in my contacts I read my Bible in the morning. Currently I am reading in Hosea, Hebrews and Isaiah. I also record a one sentence thought in my Bible reading journal.

~I am a binge reader. I consume an entire book in one sitting. Occasionally, when I don't have school the next day, I read past my bedtime and Julie kicks me out of our bedroom so that she can turn off the light. I finish the story while sitting in the hallway outside the door.

~I read Moby Dick--the entire novel including all the chapters of descriptions of whales.

~Job is my favorite book of the Bible. When I am stressed I meditate on The Wonder of It All The Creation Account According to the Book of Job.

~My Dad shares his newspaper with me. I read the comics, study the feature photographs, and skim "Dear Abby." My favorite comic strips are Zits, Baby Blues, and For Better or For Worse.

~Recently I read The Oath by Frank Peretti.

~I heard to Patricia Polacco speak at the library, once, and saw the original keeping quilt. A guy who writes science fiction for a pornographic magazine visited one of my creative writing classes. I almost met Arleta Richardson of Grandma's Attic, but she died before I had that privilege.

~One of my favorite authors is Christmas Carol Kauffman.

~The first book I read was an easy reader that told the Christmas story. The donkey's name was Zed.

~I own the complete works of William Shakespeare and spent an entire semester reading a few of Shakespeare's comedies and tragedies. Andrew, who sat next to me in class, spent the entire semester chewing his fingernails.

There are ten honest things about me. If you would like to participate in the "Honest Scrap" award, please consider this your invitation.

  1. From one book lover to another....here is one honest book scrap about me....I frequently enjoy reading children's book as much as or more than big people's books. There is a different creative ability necessary to condense a story into child size bites. My favorite children's books often blur the line between story and song as they contain so much rhythm and rhyme.

I never heard of Three Go Searching, but I'll have to look for it at the library. Patricia St. John is one of my favorite authors!

Years ago, we found Patricia Polaccos' books at our public library and have enjoyed them very much, especially "Just Plain Fancy..."
Christmas Carol Kauffman books are some of my current favorites too! :)
