Anointed

Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:14-16 NIV

The men of the church gathered around Aaron and laid hands on him while the pastor prayed and anointed him with oil Sunday morning. Aaron has experienced an increased amount of pain the past few days. Following the instruction in Scripture he asked to be anointed with oil for healing.

  1. We praise God for your family's faith in the Scriptures, Amy. We will claim this promise for Aaron--and for Betsy and Julie too--and look forward to seeing Aaron healed.

  2. God answered. Aaron slept last night without pain. He had been on pain medicine since Thursday afternoon and he said his pain was nearly to the level it was in the hospital. He only had two of his pain pills left. But he hasn't taken any pain medicine since yesterday lunch time.

  5. An unpolished compassionate note from a northerner:
I am sorry to hear of my brothers pain- herinafter called "it".
I want to encourage brother to challenge it with new learning: read about something that you could learn to do that you have never done, like a musical instrument, a hand skill unrelated to those things that you are accustomed (no farm related skills). I don't know all your weakenesse and I don't want you to over tax your head- but if there is something NEW you could learn: Do it! This may help with the healing of those muscles that were damaged.
This past winter I sustained a small avulsion fracture to my left knee. When I was encouraged to do the conventional things to comfort me in pain, I found them to blockade what I really needed to do- learn to use the knee in ways that helped give strength to the damaged area. Slowly over time I was able to bring that injury to an end and get in one more ski trip besides. One thing I did was massage the area often after brief moments of being "up on it". It may sound stupid, but it may actually help for you to get head massages. Just like our backs get sore and need them, those hidden muscles (like that damaged in my fracture) recieved alot of benefit from a massage. Drink lots of water after any massages as this helps to release toxins from your body.
I hope you learn something new while you are laid-up brother. I don't know how physically restrained you are at this time, but even reading about a subject you know nothing about can help to connect any neurons needed to re-connect... just thoughts from someone who prays to God for strength as I heal.
    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Flaugher
