Bargains and stops

Our adventuring took a commercial turn when Amanda and I were lured into a Rite-Aid with a going-out-of-business sale. The shelves were picked over, but we managed to find bargains, though we left the home-made root beer kit there along with the fig colored Bert's Bees lip balm. Everything was 75% off, and I procured two hats! The stop was completely justified, when I spotted a woman who in lieu of a rain bonnet, wore a plastic shopping bag wrapped around her hair. I could see the outline of "Thank-you" on the back of her head.

Our second sanity break was in Findlay, Ohio--Flat City--where we wandered through a small section of St. Michael's Cemetery. The resting place named for the Archangel extended over miles and contained hundred of monuments and a few vaults. We were amused by the bright red fire hydrant.

Shawnee Lookout proved to be a disappointment, thought it did have a bathroom. There was no lookout and no water suitable for splashing. It was 84F and muggy. We weren't especially interested in Indian burial mounds, but we did find a quiet corner to listen to the birds and eat our Swiss cheese and crackers.

  1. I can't believe you left the Burt's Bees behind at 75%....what were you thinking? Are you headed for PA or is the destination a secret?

  2. Actually, we only left the fig and peonie Burt's Bees behind. We each bought original or some such bland balm.

Well, as you probably already know from another post, one of our stops is JO-JA. We plan to come home via the Blue Ridge Parkway (recommended by a certain aunt) and PA.

  3. Ahhh....you better get an early start on the parkway....I know someone who'll be wanting to stop every 15 minutes to take pictures. Who ever has the nerves of steel needs to drive :)
If you end up in Pegion Forge you HAVE to eat at Bennet's BBQ.
